Autumn/Winter is prime time for kiwifruit in Australia. The flesh is vibrant green, the flavour full and bright - that perfect balance of sweet and tangy that makes them genuinely one of the most satisfying things to eat this time of year. Packed with vitamin C, fibre and potassium too.
Slice in half and eat with a spoon for a quick, nourishing snack. Layer through a pavlova or fruit tart, blend into a green smoothie, or dice through a fresh salsa to serve alongside fish. They're also a brilliant natural meat tenderiser - halve one and rub over a steak before cooking.
Store firm kiwifruit at room temperature until they yield gently to pressure (3–7 days), then refrigerate and use within 1–2 weeks. Keep away from bananas and apples, which will speed up ripening faster than you'd like.
